You can send a text message to a Verizon cell phone by using a computer. Text messages can be sent without using a mobile phone. Verizon assigns a unique email address to each cell phone for receiving text messages. You can use either Verizon's text message web page or send an email using your email application.
Use Verizon's vtext protocol to send a message to someone with Verizon phone service. Simply use the recipient's phone number as the email address, and append @vtext.com to the number.

The carrier code varies based on the mobile carrier. For example, a Verizon number would look like 8887776666@vtext.com.
