5 Οκτ 2024 · It first made landfall in southern Florida as a Category 1 hurricane, but quickly gained strength over the Gulf of Mexico, eventually becoming a Category 5. By the time it hit Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, it had weakened to a Category 3, but the damage was still catastrophic.
At 10:00 AM CDT (1500 UTC), Hurricane Katrina made its third landfall near Pearlington, Mississippi and Slidell, Louisiana, with sustained winds of 120 mph (193 km/h) after crossing Breton Sound. Waveland, Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport, and Biloxi, Mississippi were decimated.
