I got a computer to fix whose owner couldn't install Vista x64 with 8GB RAM. I removed 4GB and successfully installed Vista. I replaced the RAM, but the machine doesn't get far enough to run startup repair let alone boot. All I get is a black screen.
Once done, you can do a clean install either using the genuine Windows Vista Installation Disk or the Recovery Disk or the Recovery Partition (whatever process is dictated by your computer manufacturer – you may need to contact them for the procedure and perhaps to get recovery disks).
