5 Σεπ 2024 · Vocal ligament – Lies at the free upper edge of the cricothryoid ligament. Vocalis muscle – Exceptionally fine muscle fibres that lie lateral to the vocal ligaments. The vocal folds are relatively avascular, and appear white in colour.
The vocal ligaments are two bands of elastic tissue enclosed in the vocal folds. They attach to the posterior side of the thyroid cartilage anteriorly and the vocal process of the vocal process of the arytenoids cartilage.
The vocal ligament is the free superior margin of the conus elasticus (cricothyroid membrane). It extends from the internal surface of the thyroid cartilage to the vocal process of the arytenoid cartilages. The vocal ligament is covered by a layer of mucosa.

Vibration of these folds in response to air traveling through the larynx allows us to speak, sing, and produce other vocal sounds.
