Nestled within the Western Cape province of South Africa, Walker Bay wine subregion is a captivating destination renowned for its picturesque landscapes and thriving viticulture.
There is a unique mix of different soil types on the farm including decomposed granite, shale and outcrops of limestone. Additionally, the cool climate terroir allows our grapes a long ripening period for the production of concentrated, yet balanced wines that have true sense of place.
Walker Bay was one of the first cool climate regions of modern South Africa when, in the 1970s, the south coast began to be discovered for viticulture. The region is still quite small in size with vineyards scattered over seven different Wards.
It is made from grapes grown in the Valpolicella area, between the Lake Garda and the city of Verona, in VENETO and it is the region’s most prestigious red wines. Though Amarone wines from the Classico zone are often considered to be the best expression of the wine, there are many top producers operating outside the area.
Walker Bay Estate was founded in 2003 with the planting of our first grape vines. Since then the estate has grown into a fully functioning vineyard and winery, including sate-of-the-art winery equipment to ensure our winemaker can produce the best wines possible.
Walker Bay, South Africa. Wildekrans. Sustainably farmed / ORGANIC ESTATE. Wildekrans was purchased in the 1970’s and set up as a mixed farming operation of wheat, cattle, sheep, ostrich, fruit, wine and table grapes. With time it became obvious that Wildekrans was an ideal spot to grow vines.
