Within the game there are four races at war: the Human Alliance and the Orcish Horde, who also appeared in Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, and Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, along with two new character teams, the night elves and the undead.
Phoenix and Doom to B. Phoenix does insane damage and flies so it has no pathing issues. Doom Guard is weak in combat and clunky but has nice abilities, not to mention its a free unit kill. Big Bad Voodoo sucks. All units except the Shadow Hunter become invulnerable so the enemy army will zero in in the SH, killing him instantly.
Orcs are the most powerful race when it comes to brute strength. As both their tier 1 grunts, and their tier 3 tauren, win versus the other races equivalents. They also have great casters, although they require you to manually cast spells a lot more.
Learn how to control your Hero. Learn about rookie mistakes. The first Hero is free, only costs 5 supply and comes with a free Town Portal Scroll and a free skill point. Additional Heroes require resources, and come with one skill point but do not have additional Town Portal Scrolls.
