12 Απρ 2021 · If you are storing water in containers, 55 gallon drums, or any bulk size tank or container, how much Regular Chlorine Bleach should you add to purify water? This has been a common question. I’ve written about it a number of times over the years.
A general rule of thumb to shock chlorinate and disinfect a storage tank is to mix non-scented NSF-approved household bleach (5.25% chlorine) in the reservoir at the ratio of 1 gallon of bleach for every 1,000 gallons of water (i.e., 1 quart for every 250 gallons of water).
7 Οκτ 2023 · The recommended bleach-to-water ratio for disinfecting purposes is typically 1:100. This means mixing 1 part bleach with 99 parts water. For a 55-gallon water storage container, you might use approximately 5.5 to 6 cups (approximately 1.3-1.4 liters) of bleach for disinfection.
Add 25 drops or ¼ teaspoon of Clorox® Disinfecting Bleach to 1.75 gallons of water (4 drops to 1 quart). Stir thoroughly. Tip. Only use regular, unscented chlorine. Wait. Allow the treated water to stand for 30 minutes. Properly treated water will have a slight chlorine odor. Repeat as needed.
The amount of bleach you should use depends on the size of your water storage container. As a general rule of thumb, you should add 8 drops (or 1/8 teaspoon) per gallon of water if the water is clear. If the water appears cloudy or murky, double the amount of bleach used (16 drops per gallon).
