These maps show the average amount of water vapor in a column of atmosphere in a given month. The units are given in centimeters, which is the equivalent amount of water that could be produced if all the water vapor in the column were to condense.

In this imagery, bright blue and white areas indicate the presence of high water vapor or moisture content, whereas dark orange and brown areas indicate little or no moisture present.
Water vapor is what makes the air feel humid. It condenses into water droplets or freezes into ice crystals, making clouds, rain, and snow. Air temperature and water vapor play the biggest role in forming clouds. The cloud maps show what fraction of an area was cloudy on average for the month.
7 Δεκ 2020 · Precisely mapping (i.e., estimating) the spatial distribution of atmospheric water vapor with high resolution is important for understanding atmospheric dynamics (Emanuel et al., 1995).
10 Ιαν 2015 · We present a method for combining the wet delay derived from the PSI difference maps and GNSS sparse absolute estimates to build high-resolution maps of the total water vapor content in the neutrosphere.
The GOES 'water vapor' map displays the concentration and location of clouds and water vapor in the atmosphere and shows data from both the GOES East and GOES West satellites. Imagery is updated approximately every 15 minutes in real time.
