For waves, these variables have the same basic meaning. However, it is helpful to word the definitions in a more specific way that applies directly to waves: Amplitude—distance between the resting position and the maximum displacement of the wave; Frequency—number of waves passing by a specific point per second
Speed of a wave. Intensity of a wave vs. amplitude. Intensity of a wave’s radiation at a certain distance from the source. Transmitted intensity of light incident on a polariser (Malus’s law). n1/n2 = Index of refraction. θ = Angle of incidence/refraction. v = Wave velocity. s = Fringe spacing. λ = Wavelength. D = Distance to screen. d ...
The amplitude, wave number, and angular frequency can be read directly from the wave equation: \begin{align*} y(x, t)=& A \sin (k x-w t)=0.2 \: \mathrm{m} \sin \left(6.28 \: \mathrm{m}^{-1} x-1.57 \: \mathrm{s}^{-1} t\right) \nonumber \\
A wave’s amplitude is the maximum distance (positive or negative) a wave reaches from its rest position. Wavelength is the distance between the same spot on two sections of a wave. A wave’s frequency can be measured by how many crests (or how many troughs) pass a location in a certain amount of time.

11 Ιαν 2023 · Figure 8.2.3: Graphical Representation of a Wave. The plot on the left is a snapshot plot of the wave taken at t = 0 sec. You can read from the plot the amplitude of the wave, A = 2 cm, and the wavelength, λ = 4 m. The plot on the right show the oscillation of the medium at x = 3 m as a function of time.
Amplitude Formula. The amplitude of a wave is the maximum displacement of the particle of the medium from its equilibrium position. It is represented by A. The Amplitude formula can be written as. \ (\begin {array} {l}y=Asin (\omega t+\phi )\end {array} \)
