A wave’s crest is its highest point, and its trough is its lowest point. A wave’s amplitude is the maximum distance (positive or negative) a wave reaches from its rest position. Wavelength is the distance between the same spot on two sections of a wave.
The Electromagnetic Spectrum. Image Credit: NASA. The electromagnetic spectrum is comprised of all frequencies of electromagnetic radiation that propagate energy and travel through space in the form of waves. Longer wavelengths with lower frequencies make up the radio spectrum.
Amplitude, frequency, wavenumber, and phase shift are properties of waves that govern their physical behavior. Each describes a separate parameter in the most general solution of the wave equation. Together, these properties account for a wide range of phenomena such as loudness, color, pitch, diffraction, and interference.
28 Δεκ 2020 · The Electromagnetic Spectrum. Electromagnetic waves can come in many different wavelengths and different frequencies, so long as the product of the wavelength and frequency of a given wave equals the speed of light (that is, λf = c).
Course: Oscillations and waves (Essentials) - Class 11th > Unit 3. Lesson 2: Properties of waves. Properties of periodic waves. Understand: wave properties. Sound properties: amplitude, period, frequency, wavelength. Properties of transverse and longitudinal waves.
11 Ιαν 2023 · Figure 8.2.3: Graphical Representation of a Wave. The plot on the left is a snapshot plot of the wave taken at t = 0 sec. You can read from the plot the amplitude of the wave, A = 2 cm, and the wavelength, λ = 4 m. The plot on the right show the oscillation of the medium at x = 3 m as a function of time.
Make waves with a dripping faucet, audio speaker, or laser! Adjust frequency and amplitude, and observe the effects. Hear the sound produced by the speaker, and discover what determines the color of light.
