In this update, we present key findings from a review of the current literature focused on potential causes and strategies for preventing childhood obesity.
25 Σεπ 2024 · Obesity in children has increased in recent decades. Causes are multi-factorial including biological, genetic disposition, behavioural and environmental influences. Calculating body mass index (BMI) is the most widely accepted method of screening for obesity in children.
Many population-based observational studies have shown that rapid weight gain during infancy, including a catch-up growth phenomenon or adiposity rebound in early childhood, predisposes a person to the development of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases later in life.
