Peak fares are charged during weekday rush hours on trains scheduled to arrive in NYC terminals between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. or depart NYC terminals between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. On Metro-North, peak fares also apply to weekday trains that leaves Grand Central between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.

There are different prices for peak and off-peak travel. Passengers also have the option of purchasing a MetroCard. A round-trip ticket costs just $5.50 with the card. During off-peak hours, the Metro fare is almost 25% lower than during peak hours. Most day and one-way tickets are valid for 60 days.
Rides are priced according to length of trip and peak vs. off-peak times, and it’s helpful to remember that Metro-North peak hours are between 6am and 10am for trains arriving in NYC and between 4pm and 8pm for trains departing NYC.
