24 Απρ 2023 · The helium balloon displaces an amount of air (just like the empty bottle displaces an amount of water). As long as the helium plus the balloon is lighter than the air it displaces, the balloon will float in the air.
8 Σεπ 2014 · While the molecular mass (and thus, per the ideal gas law, the density) of hydrogen gas is about half that of helium, what determines the buoyancy of a balloon is the difference between the density of the gas inside the balloon and the air outside.
4 Ιουλ 2021 · The reason helium balloons deflate so quickly is because helium escapes a balloon faster than air can enter it. In fact, helium diffuses through a solid (like a balloon) three times faster than air. Foil helium balloons don’t deflate as quickly as latex balloons for two reasons.
24 Απρ 2023 · As long as the helium plus the balloon is lighter than the air it displaces, the balloon will float in the air. Most of us feel comfortable with the idea of something floating in water. In fact, people themselves float in water, so we have a way of directly experiencing water flotation.
25 Νοε 2007 · Why is it helium in balloons and not hydrogen? Answer. In order to get a floating balloon you want a gas which is as light as possible. Helium is quite a lot lighter than air: it's about an eighth of the density of air. Hydrogen is about a sixteenth the density of air, so it'll float in air and will in fact float upwards.
19 Οκτ 2023 · What is helium used for, and where does it come from? Learn facts about this noble gas, including how it causes balloons to float, its surprising uses in medicine and exploration, and how its limited availability on Earth could affect science and industry.
