Sound devices are resources used by poets to convey and reinforce the meaning or experience of poetry through the skillful use of sound. After all, poets are trying to use a concentrated blend of sound and imagery to create an emotional response.

Sound Devices. Alliteration – the repetition of constant sounds in words that are close together. Assonance – the repetition of similar vowel sounds followed by different consonant sounds, especially in words close together. Consonance – the repetition of the same or similar final consonant sounds on accented syllables or in important words.
