I recommend uploading in 2k or higher if you need the image quality tobe as high as possible. (doing so forces Vp9, a codec that retains higher image quality, 1080p and lower however will not be affected unless the video grows popular) Youtube transforms everything to thier format, so all videos are the same on all platforms.
So if your focus is on 1080P for the majority of your media, you would choose x265 over x264 for future downloads? I'm trying to tweak Sonarr/Radarr qualities and debating on which one I want to go with.
ProRes is useful as an intermediate codec if you plan to edit again later. If you want optimal quality in small files h.265 is the best option. A 100mbit h.265 file will look better than a 100mbit ProRes file. I think it only really matters where it’s going to end up. Are you putting it on YouTube?
1 Σεπ 2017 · Say you’re doing a 1080p livestream on YouTube at 8Mbps via AVC. With an HEVC encoder, that 1080p feed will stream at just 4Mbps. Same quality, less data. Since less data is being used in the transfer, more data is saved. This is especially important for users with data-capped devices like cellular 4G and on-demand subscription plans.
