What is a Concussion? [1] Concussions are classified as a subset under Traumatic Brain Injury, which leads to a disruption of normal brain function. In the literature, ‘mild traumatic brain injury’ and the term ‘concussion’ are often used interchangeably. Concussion impacts cognitive processes, emotions, and memory in individuals.

Athletes who suffer multiple concussions over time or who sustain repeated concussions with progressively less impact are also considered to have complex concussions. Specifically, the tests provide information about memory, processing time, reaction time, and post-concussive symptoms.
