12 Απρ 2024 · By GovMint : The iconic Washington Quarter was introduced in 1932. Initially, the mint mark appeared on the reverse, below the wreath, just above the "R" at the end of the word "Quarter." The mark stayed in this position until 1964.
Mintmarks are small letters stamped on U.S. coins to designate where the coin was made. The mint mark can affect a coin’s value! In a lot of cases, where the coin was minted makes the difference between a coin being worth a few dollars and being worth a few hundred dollars!
20 Δεκ 2023 · On modern quarters minted from 1965 to the present, the mint mark is located on the obverse (heads) side of the coin, directly below the date. You will need to look closely, as the mint mark is tiny, only a few millimeters wide.
Finding mint marks on coins requires knowing where mint marks are located on specific coins. Not all coins have mint marks. Being able to find coin mint marks is useful as it can tell a coin collector or dealer where a coin was minted and its rarity.

Mint marks are letters that identify where a coin was made. They hold the maker responsible for the quality of a coin. When the U.S. used precious metals such as gold and silver to make circulating coins, a commission evaluated the metal compositions and quality of coins from each of the Mint facilities.
The mint mark on the coin is located on the reverse beneath the wreath on which the eagle is perched, and will either carry the mint mark "D" for the Denver Mint, "S" for the San Francisco Mint, or be blank if minted at the Philadelphia Mint.
