Mousetrap Car - Explained: The mousetrap car project is a classic physics challenge: Build a vehicle that can travel as far or as fast as possible by using only the energy that can be stored in a single mousetrap.
What is a Mousetrap Car? A mousetrap powered car is a vehicle that uses a mouse trap for a motor and a string to transmit force. In this method one end of a string is attached or tied to the arm/bail on the mousetrap and the other end of the string is wound around an axle.
14 Οκτ 2024 · Students design, build, and test mousetrap cars as they apply the Engineering Design Process (EDP) in this individual engineering design challenge. After researching design ideas, students build and test their mousetrap car prototypes (first model).
The mousetrap car project is an awesome way for young students to learn how to tweak different variables in order to enhance the performance of a vehicle design. We will learn how to build a mouse trap car that can go as far as possible in 4 easy steps, and how to calculate the mechanical advantage of your design.
1. Cut four wheels out of a piece of foam board or corrugated cardboard (adult supervision is necessary). 2. Make the back wheels about double the diameter of the front wheels. (Use a compass to draw the circles, or trace around a bowl or cup.) 3. Give your wheels some traction by stretching large rubber bands around each wheel.
The mousetrap car is an excellent design challenge because there are many aspects of the design that can be optimized. I have included a guideline to run this educational project, including the canvas files I created so you can easily implement this in your course.
26 Οκτ 2024 · You're going to need to attach your mousetrap to a chassis (or body), which will form the frame of your car, wheels, and an engine to power the contraption. These kinds of miniature cars are often used for physics experiment when learning about mechanical advantage, gravity, and gear ratios.
