Knowing about these biases makes us less likely to act on these “snap judgements” and more likely to treat people fairly. Succession: younger people often assume that older individuals have "had their turn," and should make way for the younger generations.
As scientists, we want to look into the origins of ageism (e.g., how does ageism come about?) and we want to describe the manifestations and consequences of age - ism (e.g., what does ageism look like and what follows from ageism?).
