Calcium chloride is an inorganic compound, a salt with the chemical formula CaCl2. It is a white crystalline solid at room temperature, and it is highly soluble in water. It can be created by neutralising hydrochloric acid with calcium hydroxide.
7 Ιουν 2024 · A compound which doesn’t contain water of crystallisation is called an anhydrous compound. E.g. anhydrous copper (II) sulfate is CuSO 4. A compound can be hydrated to different degrees. E.g. cobalt (II) chloride can be hydrated by six or two water molecules. CoCl 2 ∙ 6H 2 O or CoCl 2 ∙ 2H 2 O.
CaCl 2 is an ionic compound with chemical name Calcium Chloride. It is also called Calcium chloride anhydrous or Calcium dichloride. It is an ionic compound of chlorine and calcium. At room temperature, it is a crystalline solid white in colour. It is highly soluble in water and hence is hygroscopic in nature.

Some hygroscopic substances, such as \(\ce{P2O5}\) and anhydrous \(\ce{CaCl2}\), are widely used to “dry” liquids and gases (see experiment on the Molecular Weight of \(\ce{CO2}\)); they are referred to as desiccants.
22 Μαρ 2021 · Properties. Chemical. Calcium chloride serves as a source of calcium ions for reactions. Because calcium carbonate and sulfate are more or less insoluble, calcium chloride can be used to produce any metal chloride by introduction of a soluble sulfate or carbonate to its solutions. CaCl 2 + MSO 4 → MCl + CaSO 4.
The anhydrous form has been approved by the FDA as a packaging aid to ensure dryness (CPG 7117.02). [4] Calcium chloride is commonly used as an Electrolyte and has an extremely salty taste, as found in sports drinks and other beverages such as Smartwater and Nestle bottled water.
