If the dihydrate form is used, the amount of the solid would need to be about 1/3 greater than for anhydrous.
It can exist as a white powder in its anhydrous form or as white to colorless crystals when hydrated. In terms of its chemical properties, calcium chloride is highly soluble in water and releases a significant amount of heat upon dissolution.
