Anthropology is the study of what makes us human. To understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across all of human history, anthropology draws and builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as the humanities and physical sciences.
It defines anthropology as the “study of human nature, human society, human language, and the human past,” and argues that its approach is distinct from other disciplines because it is “holistic, comparative, field based, and evolutionary” (p. 3).
Thus, Anthropology comfortably tacks between concepts and tools used in a variety of natural (e.g., geology, zoology) and physical (e.g., chemistry) sciences as well as social sciences and humanities (English, gender studies, history)–all so as to better understand humans.
