17 Απρ 2021 · CEA is an antigen (small protein) that is found on the surface of colon, rectal, gastric and other types of cancer cells and high levels of CEA can be detected in the blood of some patients with cancer and the developing fetus.
We were able to show a shorter 5-year survival rate of 44% in patients with an elevated CEA compared to patients with a normal CEA (69%) and a remarkably shorter 5-year survival rate of only 7% in patients with a CEA level over 200 ng/mL.
High CEA levels could mean a tumor is large or has spread to other parts of your body. But CEA can’t be used for tumor staging or determining if your cancer has metastasized. Your healthcare provider may also test your CEA levels throughout cancer treatment.
