What are Pebax® elastomers? Pebax® elastomers are block copolymers that offer the best combination of performance (mechanical, chemical, processing) among thermoplastic elastomers (TPE). The name Pebax® is derived from its own chemistry, polyether block amide.
It is a block copolymer obtained by polycondensation of a carboxylic acid polyamide (PA6, PA11, PA12) with an alcohol termination polyether (Polytetramethylene glycol PTMG), PEG). The general chemical structure is: PEBA is a high performance thermoplastic elastomer.
Pebax ® thermoplastic elastomers consist of polyamide and polyether backbone blocks. These specialty elastomers offer very low material density, a wide range of shore hardness values, extremely efficient energy return (over a wide temperature range) and are optionally biobased.
Pebax ® elastomers are also recommended for a wide range of industrial film applications where the traditional durability and toughness of polyamides resin (nylon) is required, but also the ability to bend, draw, and repeatedly flex.
