Radioactive contamination, also called radiological pollution, is the deposition of, or presence of radioactive substances on surfaces or within solids, liquids, or gases (including the human body), where their presence is unintended or undesirable (from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) definition).
3 Μαρ 2022 · This brief animated video describes the concepts of radiation exposure and contamination with radioactive materials, to help people understand how to protect themselves in a radiation emergency...
10 Απρ 2024 · Radioactive contamination occurs when radioactive material is deposited on or in an object or a person. A contaminated person has radioactive materials on or inside their body. Radioactive materials released into the environment can cause contamination of: Air; Water; Surfaces; Plants and soil; Buildings; People; Animals; External contamination
Protection from radiation exposure is accomplished by avoiding contamination with radioactive material; by minimizing the duration of exposure; maximizing the distance from the source of radiation, and shielding the source.
7 Ιουλ 2023 · Radiation is the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or moving subatomic particles. Natural radiation comes from many naturally occurring radioactive materials found in soil, water, air and in the body. Every day, people inhale and ingest forms of radiation from air, food and water.
A person is externally contaminated if radioactive material is on the skin or clothing. A person is internally contaminated if radioactive material is breathed in, swallowed, or absorbed through wounds. The environment is contaminated if radioactive material is spread about or is unconfined.
