An APA in-text citation consists of the author’s last name and the year of publication (also known as the author-date system). If you’re citing a specific part of a source, you should also include a locator such as a page number or timestamp. For example: (Smith, 2020, p. 170).
References provide the information necessary for readers to identify and retrieve each work cited in the text. Check each reference carefully against the original publication to ensure information is accurate and complete.
In APA style, two citations are used to cite a source: A short citation used in the text (called the in-text citation). A full citation (called the reference) in the reference list at the end of a paper. The in-text citation is a short citation that is placed next to the text being cited.
