1 Introduction. Education and socialization are two terms that address, each in specific ways, pro-cesses of the intergenerational transmission of knowledge. Education is mainly used to describe differential educational programs in institutional arrangements and the resultant opportunities for educational attainment.
Education is an important element that determines and influences a country's social, economic and cultural development levels. The education system and the other sub-dimensions existing in the society mutually influence each other and affect the social structure, economy and employment.
To say that education is a process of socialization implies: i) Education takes place through social interaction. ii) It is much more than mere instruction. iii) People receive a certain degree of education even if they never enter a school. iv) Formal education is socialization with a deliberate purpose and in a desired direction.
For Luhmann, issues of socialization fall largely beyond the scope of a theory of social systems. Socialization, as he defined the concept, refers to changes that take place in society’s environment.
