Socrates seeks wisdom through self-ridicule, which is a product of self-questioning. The questions he asks others are questions that he asks of himself, questions that we should be asking of ourselves.
Socrates, and do not imagine I will lead a reader to self-knowledge. For the sake of exposition I offer that Socratic self-knowledge has three faces: a metaphysical, an epistemic, and a practical face.
Socrates explains that he was not aware of any wisdom he had, and so set out to find someone who had wisdom in order to demonstrate that the oracle was mistaken. He first went to the politicians but found them lacking wisdom.
