1 Αυγ 2021 · Russia's Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world by far. With a depth of about 5,487 feet, Lake Baikal is nearly 15% deeper than Lake Tanganyaki, the second deepest lake in the world.
As the water in Lake Baikal is very clearit is possible to see to a depth of 40m from the surface. The lake is part of an ancient rift valley, and has formed as the planet’s crust slowly pulls apart in that area. It contains around one-fifth of the world’s unfrozen freshwater reserves.
