It is closely related to the philosophy of art, which treats the nature of art and the concepts in terms of which works of art are interpreted and evaluated. This article addresses the nature of modern aesthetics and its underlying principles and concerns.

As philosophy evolved, aesthetics found a significant intersection with axiology, the branch of philosophy concerned with values. Axiology provides a framework for examining the aesthetic value of objects, experiences, and ideas and the ways in which they contribute to human flourishing.
My essay suggests that aesthetics, in its most recurrent form, spells out the primary conditions of sentience and of meaning making in relation to the world and to life as it is lived, and that this is true whether we look back to classical antiquity or forward to today or tomorrow.
