Quidditch (/ ˈkwɪdɪtʃ /) is a fictional sport invented by author J. K. Rowling for her fantasy book series Harry Potter. It first appeared in the novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997). In the series, Quidditch is portrayed as a dangerous but popular sport played by witches and wizards riding flying broomsticks.
The problem is not the Snitch. The problem is having a designated player who does nothing but hunt for the Snitch while no other players ever do so (or, to put the same problem another way, having 6 players who are studiously ignoring the most important ball on the field). The Golden Snitch, often simply called the Snitch, was the third and smallest ball used in Quidditch. It was a walnut-sized gold -coloured sphere with silver wings. It flew around the Quidditch field at high speeds, sometimes pausing and hovering in place.
The iconic Golden Snitch used in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was made of a metal ball made of copper and later plated with gold, with art nouveau shapes carved on it and combined the elements of industrial design to make an aerodynamically accurate Snitch.
In some segments, Harry partakes in the game of Quidditch, in which he flies on a broomstick and must locate and catch a Golden Snitch fluttering about the arena. Upon approaching the Snitch's vicinity, the player must maneuvre Harry through a series of rings in order to catch it.
