Request the full time, then update it before submission. Without looking at the AFI specifics, if you're not able to return to duty within a few hours (depending on commander guidance), you should be on leave. In general, if you get on an airplane, you're on leave till you're back home.
To keep it simple, you can accumulate 60 days of leave, anything more than that, you "lose" when October 1st rolls around.
