The new Acropolis Museum was constructed on the south side of the Acropolis at a distance of 300 metres from its monuments. The Museum’s foundations were completed on the 30th of January 2004 and its opening took place on the 20th of June 2009.
The Acropolis Museum (Greek: Μουσείο Ακρόπολης, Mouseio Akropolis) is an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on the surrounding slopes, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece .
21 Δεκ 2017 · Primary colors commonly used on sculptures of the Archaic period included red in various shades, dark blue or light blue, black, yellow and green. The paint was applied in layers of various thicknesses.
The original Acropolis Museum was founded in 1865 and opened in a building on the archaeological site in 1874. To accommodate the growing collection of discoveries, the museum constructed an additional building in 1888 and another after World War II .
10 Ιουν 2020 · Did you know that the current almost white hue of the frieze is due to time? The frieze was painted with wonderful colours. Red, blue, green, yellow and gold were some of the colours used by the ancient artists. The temple was thought to be completed only when its sculptures were also painted.

31 July 2012 - 31 August 2024. Archaic Colours. The Acropolis Museum invites visitors to explore the Archaic Acropolis Gallery and discover the unique collection of Archaic statues that still retain – some a little, others a lot – their original colours.
