The stadium's first major expansion took place in 1949, with the addition of 6,000 seats on the south side, bringing total capacity to 36,000. During the 1960s, many universities in the South were significantly expanding their stadiums, and Georgia was no different.
Sanford Stadium is an on-campus football venue located in the University of Georgia, Athens. The facility is the tenth-largest stadium in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and 18th-largest stadium in the world of its kind, with its 92,746-seat capacity.
Sanford Stadium spent $25 million in 2003 and another $8 million in 2004 for expansions. The facility added a second upper deck on the north side and 27 new north side SkySuites. These expansions increased the stadium’s seating capacity to 92,746.
