When Starbucks acquired Teavana in November 2012, people were still conducting most of their shopping in retail locations.

I spent over 6 years working for Teavana. For me personally I took a genuine interest, researched teas and herbal remedies on my own, and combined flavors to create new blends and drinks for my customers. I legitimately think Starbucks bought us to shut us down. The tea qualities took a major turn after Starbucks.

Why Teavana Failed? In a significant move in July 2017, Starbucks announced it would be closing all 397 Teavana physical locations within the following six months. The primary reason cited for this drastic decision was underperformance.

It only took about five years for the brand to go from mall-based stores with loose leaf specialty tea (and a handful of sit-down tea bars) to packaged items sold at online outlets. It also developed a bottled beverage agreement with Anheuser Busch.
