Hardhead catfish are generally regarded as an undesirable catch by most anglers, largely due to the risk associated with handling the venomous fish, as well as its 'fishy' taste as opposed to desirable game fish.

Hardheads are notorious bait thieves and since they occur in great numbers, it is often difficult to catch other species -- particularly near well fished piers or bridges. Information about the Hardhead Catfish (Arius felis), a species found in the State of Texas.
While that is true to an extent, people have hated both for much longer than those 2 species were introduced. I've seen people toss native redhorse on the shore because they eat steelhead eggs, and people dislike bowfin because they aren't bass and bust lures up.
19 Απρ 2011 · I've eaten Gaftop and as far catfish meat is concerned, it was fantastic. Don't see why a hard head would be all that much different. Just can't see me doing it though.. Hate them bastages!
22 Ιουν 2004 · Been fishing the Texas coast for 30+ years now... "surf run seacat" was just a name I came up with to give the poor hardheads some form of respect. I like gaftops too but I was refering to the "southern seacat" aka hardhead in the earlier post. Hardheads actually have better flakier meat than the "chewy" gaftop.
