6 Ιαν 2019 · In general, the Bible was written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. The Hebrew and Aramaic parts were translated into Greek, then later translated into Latin. These four forms, Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Latin, became the basis for modern-day English translations.
10 Φεβ 2023 · Efforts to translate the Bible into Old English (Anglo-Saxon) began in the 8th century, first with the book of Psalms and then the Gospel of John. Other parts were translated as well, but these efforts were brought to a temporary halt with the Norman Invasion of England in 1066.
By the late 20th century the entire Bible had been translated into more than 250 languages, and portions of the Bible had been published in more than 1,300 of the world’s languages. New translations of the Bible into English proliferated in the 20th century.
8 Ιουλ 2024 · The first complete translation of the entire Bible into English was Wycliffe’s Bible, released in the late 1300s. John Wycliffe and his followers based their translation on the Vulgate, since the original Hebrew and Greek texts were still unavailable in the West.
12 Αυγ 1985 · For the New Testament, the original Greek text is used by the Greek Church, while the other Orthodox Churches have translated the Bible into their own native languages from the original Greek, with the Slavonic translation the oldest.
Soon after the publication of Luther's New Testament an English scholar, William Tyndale, is studying in Wittenberg - where he probably matriculates in May 1524. Tyndale begins a translation of the New Testament from Greek into English. His version is printed at Worms in 1526 in 3000 copies.
Biblical scholars agree that the first five books of the Hebrew Bible were translated from Biblical Hebrew into Koine Greek by Jews living in the Ptolemaic Kingdom, centred on the large community in Alexandria, probably in the early or middle part of the third century BCE. [8]
