New TVs typically have HDMI inputs for media devices (DVD players, gaming consoles, etc.). Your older devices, however, might only have component outputs (typically two or three color-coded wires). A component to HDMI converter connects your device to your new TV.
Short answer: You’ll get better quality using component to a converter, at no additional latency cost. The analog to digital converter in a Wii2HDMI performs basically the same as the chip in a dedicated YPbPr-to-HDMI converter but they tend to be of lesser quality and don’t always have good QC.
The Wii2HDMI converts Wii's component AV out into HDMI. I have one I bought for 15€ and an OEM component cable, I can't see any noticeable difference in the image quality.
I finally received the RetroTINK adapter for my Wii and it works GREAT! I just took my component cables coming from my Yamaha receiver, that used to go to component input on old TV, and ran through RetroTINK then hdmi out to TV and voila!
