In a 2019 interview, Prince recounted his history with Snow and described how he mentored, recorded demos for, scheduled showcase performances for, and ultimately, arranged for Snow to audition for MC Shan. Prince recounted how he and Snow wrote "Informer" over the phone while Snow was serving his sentence at Maplehurst Correctional Complex.
Informer details the story of Snow’s arrest and incarceration after a fight that turned violent, and him not turning into an “Informer” by pointing out the person who did the crime. Darrin O’Brien served several months before being acquitted; during that time, he wrote and sang Informer to entertain his fellow inmates.
