By limiting access to sensitive information, the government helps prevent leaks that could damage the country's interests, its citizens, and its allies abroad.
I recently learned that although my "Active" clearance is Secret, my personal security investigation (PSI) may still be "Current" TS, since it has not been more than 5 years and it shouldn't have expired yet.
