Click on the Boot tab. Among the checkboxes at the bottom under Boot Options, click the checkbox next to Safe boot and select Minimal (if you really need network access while you are in safe mode you can select Network instead). Click OK. Reboot the guest, and it will boot into safe mode.

12 Οκτ 2009 · I can't get my Win XP guest to boot into safe mode - so that I can then install Guest Additions. F8 on my mac keyboard does nothing as the guest boots up. I've checked that the kb is set to have fn keys work normally - which they are, I need to use fn key to access the special functions.

6 Answers. Sorted by: 8. If F8 or other function keys don't work, you need to use MSConfig (Start > Run > msconfig). Select the boot.ini tab, and tick the /SAFEBOOT option. Then reboot. Note that to restore the normal behaviour you'll have to use msconfig again to remove the tick while in Safe Mode. More info here. Share. Improve this answer.
