20 Ιουλ 2024 · The Amazon River begins in the Andes Mountains at the west of the basin with its main tributary the Marañón River in Peru. The highest point in the watershed of the Amazon is the peak of Yerupajá at 6,635 metres (21,768 ft).
Its plant and animal life is remarkably rich. Almost three fourths of all the types of plants in the world grow there. The animals include monkeys, sloths, anteaters, armadillos, anacondas, toucans, and huge rodents called capybaras. The flesh-eating piranha is among the river’s many fish.
There are over 3000 known species of fish that live in the Amazon River, with more constantly being discovered. Anacondas lurk in the shallow waters of the Amazon Basin, they are one of the largest snakes in the world and occasionally attack larger animals such as goats that get to close the water.
