10 Μαρ 2024 · Following hours of closed door back-and-forths, the West Virginia Legislature on Saturday approved 5% pay raises for school employees and other state workers, as well as the phase out of the Social Security income tax, allowing lawmakers to move forward and pass what was previously described as a “very skinny” budget for fiscal year 2025.
State and local government employees may be covered for Social Security and Medicare either by mandatory coverage, or under a Section 218 Agreement between the state and the Social Security Administration. Under some circumstances, an employee may be excluded from Social Security or Medicare, or both.
