Renewals begin on September 1, 2024, and must be completed by October 31, 2024. If not completed by this date, your RN license will lapse, and you won't be able to practice as a Registered Nurse in WV until you reinstate your license.

WVBOP Changes in business The WVBOP will not currently be accepting paper applications/renewals/notices. Please use the online applications provided and submit any necessary notice via the WVBOP email address. Beginning May 1, 2020 the WVBOP will no longer be printing/mailing permits.
Between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025, you may apply for reinstatement of an expired West Virginia license. The reinstatement application is similar to a renewal application, but it also requires submission of CME documentation. The reinstatement fee is $600 for an active status license.
Renewal. All RN licenses expire on October 31of each even-numbered year. West Virginia RN license renewal applications are available on the Nurse Portal. The renewal period begins September 1 and any license not renewed by October 31 will lapse and require an additional fee to reactivate.
