The Texas Historical Commission’s (THC) Texas in World War II initiative was a multi-year statewide effort to honor the role of Texas during the Second World War. The THC launched the initiative on September 2, 2005, at the Texas State Capitol in Austin.

5 Ιαν 2022 · An estimated 200,000 airmen, including 45,000 pilots, 12,000 bombardiers, 12,000 navigators, and thousands of aerial gunners, photographers, and mechanics, were trained at the forty military airfields in Texas. More prisoners of war were housed in Texas during World War II than in any other state.
Texas A&M University's Cushing Memorial Library & Archives is helping preserve those soldiers' legacies by digitizing a set of WWII service unit maps with a purpose beyond charting land. The maps contain personal, real-time observations of troops as they fought across the European Theater.
Planning and construction of training and command facilities reached wartime highs in the early 1940s. Ultimately, Texas was home to 175 major military installations plus numerous minor ones — including 65 army airfi elds, 35 army forts and camps, and seven naval stations and bases.
