The Texas Historical Commission’s (THC) Texas in World War II initiative was a multi-year statewide effort to honor the role of Texas during the Second World War. The THC launched the initiative on September 2, 2005, at the Texas State Capitol in Austin.

There were more than 150 installations across the state, and more than 1.5 million military personnel came to Texas during the war. (More than 750,000 Texans served in World War II.) This brochure recounts the story of Texas’ involvement in World War II. It is a unique and compelling story because Texas, perhaps more than any other state, played a pivotal role in attaining victory.
