The Y level, also known as the wye level, is the oldest and most bulky of the earlier optical instruments. A low-powered telescope is installed in a pair of clamp mounts, then levelled using a spirit level set parallel to the main telescope.
Surveying and Levelling Instruments, Theoretically and Practically Described, for Construction, Qualities, Selection, Preservation, Adjustments, and Uses; with Other Apparatus and Appliances Used by Civil Engineers and Surveyors in the Field.
Surveying and Geomatics Engineering: Principles, Technologies, and Applications, MOP 152, is a comprehensive yet general overview to help support education and inform practicing engineers on the important role of the surveying engineer. It provides a much-needed update on the modern practice of surveying and geomatics engineering.

It is widely used in surveying and construction to measure height differences and to transfer, measure, and set heights of known objects or marks. It is also known as a surveyor's level, builder's level, dumpy level or the historic "Y" level.
The popular and trusted textbook covers the traditional topics such as levelling, measurement of angles, measuring distances, and how to carry out traversing and compute coordinates, as well as...
Y Level. Y level or Wye-level consists y-shaped frames which supports the telescope. Telescope cane be removed from the y-shaped supports by releasing clamp screws provided. These y-shaped frames are arranged to vertical spindle which helps to cause the rotation of telescope. Compared to dumpy level, adjustments can be rapidly tested in y- level.
