A few months ago I was getting inundated with spam emails all day long. I'm talking like 50 to 100 emails a day. My notifications were non stop. I eventually disabled them and went through the process of switching all of my accounts to a new Google email. It was very tedious but so worth it.
The mail application that comes with Windows 10 fails to sync my Yahoo account. I have attempted to add the account numerous times. My account credentials are accepted at first, but the application gets stuck attempting to sync.
Caused some real issues, since apparently the Yahoo email web client doesn't show any kind of "counter" or notification that a new email has gone to the spam folder. At least, this was my experience when I created a Yahoo account to test it.
If you've started to receive an endless flow of junk email, you may be the victim of spam bombing. This is a tactic used by bad actors and hackers to distract you from seeing emails that really are important to you. More details on how to control this can be found here: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN35621.html
I also keep hearing of yahoo leaks which may have lead to this massive increase and breakdown in filtering. Yahoo claims that the filter catches most spam but I look in my spam folder and its empty but my account is filled with all these amasons.cum and instaspam and Payeepal.
I'm assuming you're all aware of the new requirements for spam from Google and Yahoo by now, requiring DMARC and some maximum amount of emails from what I've read. I've got a customer that is a small private school, and these changes have been hell for them.
Double-check your account's security along with any other accounts that your Yahoo account is a recovery method on. If it's in the 10s, likely just a new spammer getting through before the filter catches up.
