1 Ιουν 2023 · Yellowwood tree, also commonly known as American yellowwood, is a shade tree with a showy floral display in spring and in autumn when the leaves turn yellow-orange. Yellowwood grows somewhat slowly, reaching 9 to 12 feet in about a decade.
Yellowwood is a medium- to large-sized tree, 30 to 50 feet high, with smooth bark, large hanging clusters of fragrant white flowers, and clear yellow fall color. Choose a yellowwood tree for excellent shade in a small to medium sized landscape.
Yellowwood leaves (8-11 inches) are alternate branching and compound with 7-11 broad ovate leaflets (each 2-4 inches in length) with an acute apex that are bright green and turn a bright gold yellow in the fall.
Leaves are pinnately compound, usually with about seven leaflets. They turn a clear yellow, or sometimes gold-orange, before dropping in autumn. Smooth gray bark and a rounded form give the tree a handsome look in winter. Yellowwood can make an excellent mid-size lawn tree.

A fine tree for the landscape, Cladrastis kentukea (Yellowwood) is a medium-sized, deciduous tree with a broad-rounded crown of graceful, upward-spreading branches clothed with pinnately-compound leaves. Emerging yellow-green, the leaves mature to bright green as the season progresses and turn yellow to golden brown in the fall.
The leaves are compound pinnate, 20–30 cm long, with 5-11 (mostly 7-9) alternately arranged leaflets; each leaflet broad ovate with an acute apex; 6–13 cm long and 3–7 cm broad, with an entire margin and a thinly to densely hairy underside.
