You may have a problem with filament feeding without the hub - specifically that little spring in the hub is there to give slack to the filament and allow constant feeding into the extruder. It “loads” when the AMS releases some filament which then gets used in the extruder and repeat.

New AMS not working properly. Just added a second AMS, and one of the slots doesn't seem to be rewinding the spool properly and it just spits out. Also receive an AMS motor overloaded periodically. The spool of filament in the video works fine in the other AMS, where I pulled it from.
Pre-loading failure troubleshooting. When the AMS is idle, inserting the filament will cause the AMS to pre-load the filament. The first-stage feeder will deliver the filament to the internal hub unit to be detected by sensors. After the detection, the first-stage feeder will pull back the filament.
